CONGAEA: UNMASK

CONGAEA: UNMASK is a short speculative futures project in collaboration with Luqian Wang and Harrison Tan at Royal College of Art and Imperial College, London. We were tasked to develop future narratives and artefacts which explore the role of objects, services and places in shaping how we might live and work, how we might be born and die, what might be on our dinner plates or how we might make decisions.

World Building

We started building our world. We did this by doing an exercise where we imagined what major events, fears and hopes our grandparents, parents, ourselves, our kids and grandkids would have. A dystopic world emerged for us. ‘Congaea’ is a world made up of multiple islands which was the effects of a combination of things from rise in sea levels, massive geo warfare and genocide - completely disfiguring the world map.

In this future dystopic world, terrorists were using data to identify, profile, locate and kill. United Island Nation of Congaea (UINC) declared a state of emergency. UINC in response to the mass terrorists attacks, put together ‘UNMASK’ an anti-facial recognition relief kit to protect the fundamental human right to privacy.

We created an assisted App that helps to check if the Kit has been tampered or expired. The UNMASK app also helps in walking users through the application of the anti-facial detection mask.
